Method feeder fishing is one of the most popular techniques used by modern match anglers, which means the fish have probably been caught several times before and may therefore be a little wary or, in some lakes, have changed their feeding habits.


Des Shipp noticed this when he was repeatedly getting hits on the Method Feeder, but they weren't turning into actual bites. This was because the fish were peeling all the groundbait off the feeder without touching the hookbait, effectively leaving the hookbait empty, thus defeating the purpose of Method Feeder fishing. So we decided to create a stickier, harder, denser groundbait that was easier to pack onto the Method Feeder for the venues where this happens.

The 50:50 Method Paste Natural has a very high protein content derived from fishmeal and ground pellets, which helps it pack tightly around the Method Feeder, meaning it will easily withstand the impact of casting, hitting the water, being dropped, and any small thumps from fish trying to dislodge the groundbait. This is also why it has gained a huge following for deep-sea Method Feeder fishing in both the UK and Europe.

The 50:50 Method Paste Natural is the colour of fish pellets, perfect for fishing spots where a lot of pellets are used.

It's not just a Method bait, as the name suggests. The high fishmeal content lends itself perfectly to creating a paste for the fishing rod by simply adding more water. If you prefer a very runny paste, continue adding water until you reach the desired consistency.

Andy Findlay (inventor of the Method Feeder) says: “On more pressured or fishy waters, I use 50:50 for the Method Feeder as it’s a sticky mix that packs down well, I know it hits the bottom intact on the feeder every time, and it resists even small knocks, so I know the groundbait is exactly where I want it, on and around the feeder in a nice, compact pile, so the hookbait is perfectly presented on the surface.”

Mixing instructions

Method Paste Natural 50:50 is easy to mix. Empty the 2kg bag of groundbait into a round bucket, fill a 2-pint maggot tray with water, pour the mixture over the groundbait and mix thoroughly, then let it sit for 30 minutes; during this time, the water will be absorbed by the groundbait. For best results, pass the groundbait through a sieve to remove any lumps and create a uniform consistency.

When fishing, the sun and wind can dry out your groundbait a little; to avoid this problem, you can cover your mixed groundbait with a damp towel or, if it dries out, add a little water and mix again.
