Covert Dark Continental Mugga hooks feature an extra strong wire, combining the incredible hooking power of the original Mugga with the strength required for extreme fishing situations, with numerous specification improvements that have been implemented on all Gardner Covert Dark hook models.

Covert Dark Continental Muggas are now available in bulk packs. These packs contain 20 hooks instead of the usual 10, offering a small cost saving and less packaging. Available with barb in sizes 4 and 6.

First, we've redesigned the shape and point length of Continental Mugga hooks to make them longer, thinner, and much sharper than before. The new, longer, tapered points are a significant improvement, and the shape and point now ensure the hook bites even faster and penetrates more easily.

Next, we switched to the new, minimally coated Covert Dark plating. This new finish still offers excellent camouflage, thanks to its matte finish, and also ensures the sharpest point possible on the hook, as it's a single plating. Reducing handling during the finishing process ensures the points remain pristine and razor-sharp.

We've also updated all new Covert Dark hooks with a micro-barb. This offers two main advantages. First, many commercial fisheries require anglers to use models with small points because they're gentler on the fish's mouth, and second, micro-barb hooks are stronger because less wire is cut to form the point.

The "Continental" version of the Mugga hook is made of double-temperature forged high-carbon steel, making it significantly stronger and heavier. Although the hooks are 30% stronger, the wire used doesn't make them heavy or bulky. This extra-strong wire means the Continental Mugga offers the brute force needed for extreme fishing situations, such as catching large fish in heavy weeds or near snags.

If you study the design of the Mugga hook range, it's not hard to see why Mugga models offer unrivaled hooking potential when used with a variety of leader materials. The aggressive hooking action and strong hook hold they offer are due to a combination of key features that work perfectly together. The combination of a wide, slightly curved shank and a 25° turned eye causes the hook to flip over as soon as the leader tightens or the hook eye reaches the edge of the fish's lip. This unique action ensures the hook securely grips the corner of the mouth or lower lip without having to add heat shrink tubing to improve a less effective "similar" model.

The new Covert Dark version of the Longshank Mugga incorporates several significant specification changes, improvements that have been implemented on all Gardner Covert Dark hook models.

We've changed the hook finish to the new, essential Covert Dark plating, which still offers excellent camouflage thanks to the dark matte finish, but also ensures the hook points remain pristine and razor-sharp. Covert Dark is a single electroplated layer, and the reduced handling during the finishing process ensures the points remain as sharp as the day they were made.

A second major specification change is that we've refined the shape and length of the point of the long-shanked Mugga hooks, making them longer, thinner, and even sharper than before. The new long, tapered points are a significant improvement, ensuring the hook sets even faster and penetrates more easily.

Gardner has also updated all new Covert Dark hooks to include a micro-barb. This offers two main advantages. First, many commercial fisheries require anglers to use small-barbed hooks because they're gentler on the fish's mouth, and second, micro-barbed hooks are stronger because less wire is cut to form the barb.

With their extended curved shank, Covert Dark Longshank Mugga hooks are custom-designed to provide a high level of anti-ejection and ultimately create strong hook holds. The shape causes the pattern to twist and turn extremely aggressively when inhaled or placed in the mouth of a feeding carp. This aggressive action forces the hook point to grip the lower lip, where it inevitably gets the strongest possible hold.

Baits can be mounted in various ways with these hooks
